B.E.S.T Academy (Business Engineering Science Technology) was a 233,421 square foot project that had 127 Trane water source heat pumps installed to provide heating and cooling for the classrooms. Outside air for the classrooms is provided by 5 Aaon roof mounted energy recovery units (desiccant type) for ventilation, dehumidification and energy conservation. For the administrative offices, theater, cafeteria and auditorium areas cooling and heating are provided by 16 roof mounted packaged units. The central plant consist of 1 250-ton single cell cooling tower and 1 plate and frame heat exchanger complete with 2 Bell & Gossett 15 HP condenser water pumps and 40 HP tempered water pumps. A total of 2 Aerco 1,060 MBH gas fired boilers were installed with 2 3HP hot water boiler pumps in order to maintain loop water temperature. This process allows constant water temperature in the condenser water loop for the water source heat pump. There is a total of 17 ductless split systems installed to provide cooling for elevator, IT and other essential areas of the building. The Building Automation System (BAS) installed at B.E.S.T. Academy is a full Trane Direct Digital Control (DDC) system. The controls installed at this project is a Trane Tracer Summit with a full graphics package per Atlanta Public School guideline specifications.
